- Since the end of the decade-long war in 2002, Sierra Leone has experienced immense economic growth.
- Though Sierra Leone's economy has improved greatly, it has been very slow due to the substantial reconstruction needs.
- Poverty and unemployment still remain major concerns, as current President Ernest Bai Koroma will admit to.
- The main exports of Sierra Leone are diamonds, rutile, cocoa, coffee, and fish.
- The decade-long civil war centered around a power struggle and had a regional dimension.
- The trade of illicet gems, known as "blood diamonds", greatly perpetuated the civil war.
- Great Britain, which was the former colonial power, and the United Nations greatly helped Sierra Leone out of its decade-long civil war.
Questions:
In what ways specifically did Great Britain and the UN help Sierra Leone out of its civil war?
What did they do?
You made some good points here such as the civil war and I argee with this because diamonds are very valuable.
ReplyDeleteA point about this you may want to think about is where the resources are placed around the country and if they trade/how much do they trade... because this would bring in an income that would help with the economy greatly.
ReplyDeleteThis post made me realize that there are a lot of resources in Africa. It made me realize this because in you notes it said there were diamonds, coffee, and fish.
